July 2020 - The "Anziani Estate 2020" project promoted by the Sant'Egidio Community and the Amplifon Foundation got underway on 1 July. The aim is to support in a concrete way the care of the elderly in Rome, Milan and Novara by focusing on home care to design a new model of care: a concrete response to counteract the loneliness and isolation of the elderly population and to prevent the discomforts related to the summer heat, still a great enemy of our lonely grandparents.

In Milan, in particular, the Amplifon Foundation is supporting an innovative and integrated home intervention pilot project that will involve the elderly population of the Corvetto district in the south-eastern suburbs. This experimentation of active monitoring through telephone calls and a physical presence on the territory assumes a strategic importance at the time of phase 2 of the Covid-19 emergency.

The objectives

To reduce the risks of heat and loneliness of the elderly especially during the summer period and to bring cases of particular isolation closer to social services and other services in the neighbourhood.

In addition, through an intense activity of knowledge of the various realities, the aim is to avoid homelessness and spread a culture of "good neighbourliness", which on the one hand re-evaluates the figure of the elderly as a resource for society as a whole and increases intergenerational exchanges, on the other hand it restores the sense of collective and individual responsibility in the relationship with the weakest subjects, promoting forms of social protection, at condominium and neighbourhood level.
